A Tall Cherry Federal Tall Post Bed with Tester, New England, c.1800

This cherry bed is monumental in aspect with substantially-sized posts in both front and back, and instead of the usual bulbous vase-shaped posts, these are straight with a gently ascending taper and embellishments of deep reeding as well as wonderfully carved acanthus elements. Generally, these beds have thinner rear posts, as they were not to be seen, but these are just as robust as the front, with a large cherry headboard.
