An Inlaid Mahogany Hepplewhite (George III) Sideboard, England, c.1800

This sideboard is a very svelte showstopper.  Where sideboards tend to be heavy and cumbersome, this sleek sideboard is of good scale and deep enough to functionally serve its intended purpose for laying out a dinner.  The inlays and pateras on the legs are full-blown.  In fact, it's rare to see the bellflowers extending the full length of the leg.  The ivory escuteons also lend a sense of grace and style.   With all these embellishments, the backdrop is a beautiful golden crotch mahogany of which the top is quite dramatic.

Generally, sideboards of this delicate nature have had many breaks and repairs.  However, this one is in a beautiful state of preservation with no breaks or alterations except the beautiful French polishing this has received through the years.  Interestingly, if this were an American sideboard with all the drop-dead inlays, it would be three times the price.
