A Sheraton Mahogany Sofa with Reeded Legs, probably Boston, c.1800

This sofa is strikingly sculpted as can be seen by its side view as it relates to the front view; note the rake to the rear legs. The wood is dark, dense mahogany and quite heavy, as it was no doubt an expensive piece. The legs are beautifully reeded and the arm supports follow a similar reeding with a generously formed baluster support.
