A Federal, Classical Carved Mahogany Caned Bench, c.1860-90
This caned bench has a beautifully carved crest reminiscent of the New York/Duncan Phyfe school which mixes this element into the Sheraton style reeded legs and arms. The arms are of the reeded baluster form as are the legs. As a bench, it is fully developed. Usually a loose cushioned seat is applied. This settee is in excellent condition, including caning.
