This bed probably came from a plantation, as it came out of the South. The posts are monumental and look like probably the work of antebellum laborers. The amount of time to carve these columns testifies to the importance this bed must have had in the home. They are very tall and, are framed with a full baseboard and headboard which has a nicely carved rococo revival motif.
