Carved Classical Mahogany Sofa, Boston or Salem, c.1830.

This is a fine example of the period, as is evidenced by the detailed sharp carving throughout. Note the amount of horizontal carving above the foot gives this sofa a wing-like aspect, and upon close examination, one can see fruit motifs in the carving just before the acanthus begins, which is quite unusual and relates to the carving of Samuel McIntyre.
