Exuberant Oak Grecian Curule Chair, probably Stickley-Brandt Chair Co, New York, c.1890-1918

This chair is clearly a tour de force and an eye stopper in any room. Not only is the North Wind facial image in the center of backsplat vigorously sculpted, but he is flanked by a female head at each end of the upper stile. There is much going on in this chair and the best view is an attached montage of pictures showing all of the elements going on in design. Interestingly, this chair has probably its first upholstered seat and has no alterations, breaks or modifications whatsoever.

A strikingly similar chair, identified as a product of the Stickley-Brandt Chair Company (1891-1918) recently sold at auction (see image below).
