A Mahogany Chippendale style Corner Chair in the Philadelphia Mode, Sypher & Co., 1883
This interesting corner chair is beautifully crafted throughout with finely detailed splats, reeded posts, carved knees with shells, et al. This piece is most interesting as it retains a copy of its original bill of sale from Sypher & Co. Sypher & Company is discussed by Christopher Monkhouse in Furniture in Pendleton House, RISD, and is one of those fine shops, like Hagan, that serviced the affluent New York community at the turn of the century responsive to the centennial revival movement.
