Inlaid Mahogany and gilt Chippendale Mirror, c.1790, New York

This spectacular mirror is a tour de force with inlay pateras, gold leaf floral embellishments. The swan neck pediment which terminates with large rosettes is a holdover from early Chippendale forms, however, the in inlays speak of later Hepplewhite embellishment, which began to creep in at this time period, 1790-1810.
