A Rare Classical Mahogany Extension Conference/Dining Table, NY, Duncan Phyfe, c.1830

This extension table is a rare form meant to be used as a large side table in its compact form, allowing the full openness of a room to be used. In its extended form, this table makes for a very serviceable conference table, or a fine dining table seating up to 12 comfortably. The quality of the wood is outstanding, showing bold figure on all surfaces, which gives this table a most rich and textured look. The primary top leaf and the four additional leaves are solid, unjoined, highly figured mahogany boards of the best type, each an impressive 25 in. wide.
An identical table made by Duncan Phyfe is illustrated on pg.135 of Peter Kenny’s Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York (see scan below with comparison to our table).
This table is in a fine state of preservation and indicates it has had very limited use over the years.

Extends up to 125 in. long using four 25 in. wide leaves.
