This table has drop leaves and a top of the solid with strong, vibrant figure.  These New York tables always were made in the Phyfe workshop and/or by other makers in close proximity at this time, i.e. a related drop leaf made by Lannuier illustrated in Honore Lannuier Cabinetmaker from Paris, Peter M. Kenny (see scan).  Instead of carved acanthus, this table relies primarily on characteristic full reeding.  A table attributed to Phyfe is illustrated in the 1929 Girl Scouts Loan Exhibition which shares a remarkably similar reeded plinth (see scan).  These tables both with and without finial turnings in the center of the plinth also illustrated in the preceding attachment.   A card table with a similar central turning is illustrated in New York Furniture: the Federal Period 1788-1825, John L Scherer (see scan).
