Fine Walnut Gothic Sofa Table, probably New York, c. 1840

This is a relatively rare form, which we call a sofa table as it has side flaps on the short sides and drawers along the long side. In function, it perhaps, is more like a small library table. The top is composed of four solid walnut boards. This is unusual as walnut comes in relatively short widths.
