Large Mahogany Neoclassical Tilt-top Table, New York, c.1815.
This table has a large one-piece board top of beautifully striped mahogany (see above). The center column is turned in an urn shape with acanthus carving which through a series of shaped turnings it integrated into a classic saber foot with similar acanthus carving at the knees with small New York style paw feet which often characterizes New York work of this period produced by Duncan Phyfe and his contemporaries at this time late into the first quarter of the 19th century.
