Mahogany Empire Drop-leaf Table with Carved Pineapple legs, c.1830-40

This drop leaf table or breakfast table is unusually wide, the top board, nevertheless, of a single, solid mahogany board, with scallop shaped leaves. The legs are beautifully turned and carved in a diamond, pineapple style, a technique often used on beds. The turnings are quite defined and somewhat extreme in the area above the casters, which are original and first.
