Mahogany Neoclassical Bureau, New York, c.1830
This formidable high style mahogany bureau is one of the finest examples of Classical style. While the secondary woods clearly indicate an American piece, one almost senses this to be French, because of the superb cabinetry of drawer construction and infrastructure. For example, the drawer liners, etc, are rather thin, and the finish with superb dovetailing indicates a fineness of cabinetmaking that one connotes with New York and the Lannuier school.
