Announcement!  This item will be available at auction from Neal Auction Company on January 26th, 2019.  Preview exhibition is currently underway.  Click here to see our listings at nealauction.com.

This outstanding marble top commode is a rare form utilizing rosewood and architectural embellishments typical of this period. The doors are often lined on the inside with a bright fabric. This commode has the Meeks stenciled label and is stylistically unique for the form, it is the only one known to us. The feet are beautifully executed and retain their original casters.

A related Meeks piece is illustrated in The Magazine Antiques, May 2000, (see below). The same stenciled label is used and both pieces share stylistic similarities in the rounded edge treatment, etc.

Height: 41 1/4 in.  Width:  45 1/4 in.  Depth: 22 1/2 in.
