Walnut Empire Bookcase, c.1840-50

Bookcases of this large size are quite rare and this one came out of the Rodman estate (the Rodmans were an old Rhode Island family, Rodman Manufacturing). This bookcase is in mint condition retaining all of its original wavy glass. This casepiece has a detachable cornice and bracket feet giving it lift off the ground, of which both details are dovetailed , and the backboards are all of solid stock 13 1/2 in. wide and applied in traditional fashion.
