Monumental Oak Roll-Top Desk with Batwings, labeled Durbey, c.1890

For its form, this desk is the best of its type. It is high and reveals a fully developed interior beneath a stylishly curved wood tambour cover. This desk, from the back, sides and front is a tour de force of "pillowed" paneled quartered oak of the highest quality. The batwings put it into a very desirable category, and with its immense size, we refer to it as "the Clerk of the Works".
