Mahogany Empire Secretary of small size, c.1830.

Generally, this form is seen in large scale and it is rare to find one only 36 in. wide a fold-open desk opens revealing the original storage compartment above three storage drawers. The upper case reveals an intricate glazed framework with a cornice molding typical of this Neoclassic period. The wood is highly figured throughout and the cabinetry is sophisticated, probably produced in one of the major East Coast cities.
