A Neoclassical Mahogany Secretary, Connecticut, c.1820.

This mahogany secretary came from a local estate in the Pomfret, CT area and exhibits a provincial cabinetmaker’s stylistic interpretation of the NeoClassical form. The reeded columns flanking the lower drawers and finely carved paw feet with a highly individualistic interpretation of the traditional acanthus leaf carving and paw feet is both naive and technically superb in craftsmanship.
