Gothic Mahogany Drop-front Desk, c.1840

Private Collection

This small-scale desk is composed of a solid ribbon-grain board top above a traditional gothic motif on the large pullout drawer. Flanking all drawers below are spiral columns above classically carved empire paw feet. The interior is composed of strong Tiger Maple wood with elegantly carved letter slats.
