Mahogany Chinese Chippendale style server, c.1890.

Private Collection

This benchmade server shows the finest carving detail throughout and yet is restrained to the scale. The top board is of solid highly figured mahogany. While the top is deeply bowed with a blind fretwork apron, the base is shaped inward, balancing the stylistic (and functional) composition.
