This piece was purchased by the Wishnut galleries in New Orleans in 1969 from a noted New Orleans antiques dealer, Elmo Avet. Mr. Avet had this in his private collection with other items formerly the property of the politically incorrect but socially significant Madame Norma Wallace, a mid 20th century Crescent City "entrepreneur." She later operated a well-known restaurant in New Orleans.
