Pair of Painted Side Chairs, American, c.1820-35
These "fancy" chairs preceded the Hitchcock type and are wonderfully painted on all exposed surfaces, from top to bottom - the crest rail, backsplat, main front strectcher and legs, etc. Even the side has a gold line sillouhette. This chair is remarkably similar to one in the Henry Ford Museum. These are truly a collector's pair of chairs, for one who wants the untouched real thing.
