Not all early Sheraton drop leaf tables are created equal. This table has very slender red legs and the top seems to almost float on air. But, what a top! Note the magnificent one-board top and the ribbon graining that radiates a warm glow. This is matched by the leaves which are cloved shaped.
This table is a delicate and early 19th century New York masterpiece of scale and delicacy with the finest of mahogany chosen. It is identical to the one illustrated in McClellan, Nancy. Duncan Phyfe and the English Regency, plate 185: one of the first scholarly publications in early New York furniture pro- duction at the turn of the 19th century.
