This piece is historically meaningful as Swan’s brand comes with historical documentation relative to his life of which a copy of his “indenture” of apprenticeship accompanies this piece, and is quite detailed and tells a story of that time. Robert Lionetti, grandson of the famous dealer John Walton, used this piece as part of a furniture presentation at Winterthur. The construction shows wood of unusual thickness and retains its original old dry finish.
Given the original indenture agreement which is shown in the images above, it gives us a real look into furniture making in Connecticut and made it a must have for our collection.
