A Set of Four Carved Walnut Chippendale Dining Chairs, Ireland

This is a very robust set of chairs with a number of refinements.  Note the good sized claw and ball feet and the carved acanthus knees.  These chairs have gracious balloon seats, and the seat rail is beautifully shaped. Note that there is only one stretcher in the back, typical of English furniture.

These chairs have a strong curvature to the back and are quite comfortable, as the scale is quite large.

There are museum numbers on the back of one of these chairs, indicating they were owned by the Historic Williamsburg collection. We have many images of these chairs on our website in addition to comparative examples.
