A Rare Mahogany Hepplewhite Wing Chair with Inlaid Leg, in Historic Surface, Southern States, c.1800

This wing chair illustrates the Hepplewhite tapered leg, and in itself would not be particularly rare, if not for the inlay on the front leg. It had an old surface and clearly the inlays were originally there.  I acquired it from a pioneer collector who advertised it in the Maine Antique Digest and knew what he had, and I felt this would be a worthy addition as they almost never come around.  This chair has a beautiful rake to the rear legs.

The style of the inlays relate to those Levy illustrates on a card table from Maryland c.1790–1800.
