A Pair of Classical Mahogany Fire Screens on Lyre Frames with Original Tapestries and Carved Scroll Platforms, Boston, c. 1820

Our classical collection has been partial to the lyre motif and when I found this pair at Christie’s, it was definitely a must-have. I was determined to take them home, no matter what.

Pairs of pole screens are rare and impossible to find with lyre frames and especially with their original tapestry insets.  It was a great find in 1994 and made my day.

The base of these pole screens have interesting curved supports that rest on small mahogany balls above the plinth.  The scroll feet are ribbed and have side indentations.
