This is a grand drop leaf table composed of solid mahogany which is triumphantly carved throughout. Note the very wide central column with acanthus carving that is wonderfully undercut, revealing the dimensionality of the leafage. In fact, there is a double row of this leafage which is graced below with rope carving. The small plinth is further carved on the open spaces that remain, and the entirety of the legs are fully carved with dolphin heads, and articulated scaled bodies.
This drop leaf table is a masterpiece of classical inspiration. Its inspiration comes from others of this grouping related to Philadelphia the school of Anthony Quervelle at the latter part of the first quarter of the 19th century.
