A Mahogany Classical Pier/Card Table with Segmented Top, Boston, MA, c.1815

This is an example of a card table with its lyres placed at the ends of the card table.  It is connected by a turned crosspiece that is embellished with a central spiral turning between two brass rings.  The cabriole shaped legs have ebony inlay, and outside of the legs is an interesting brass star inlay. The top is composed of vibrant mahogany.

This is a Boston card table circuit 1820, and is related to a sofa table with similar lyre placement illustrated in by Bernard and S Dean Levy, in The Magazine Antiques, May 1999.
