This is a delicate wing chair with quintessentially Newport rounded front legs with claw and ball feet. A closely related wing chair to this with simple pad feet, instead of the more desirable claw and ball foot, is illustrated in Greenlaw, Barry New England Furniture at Williamsberg, cat. no. 68, and another closely related model is illustrated in Heckscher, Morrison “Form and Frame: New Thoughts on the American Easy Chair.” The Magazine Antiques, Dec. 1971, p.888, fig.6. Greenlaw’s write up on this chair can be seen in our images, as can many images of the chair frame, which are essential when dealing with upholstered furniture. I acquired this chair at a local auction which touted its provenance with John Walton, (a New York dealer who relocated to Connecticut and handled many great pieces, this being one of them).
Height: 48 ½ in. Seat Height: 17 in.
