This small bonnet top highboy circa 1760 is a symphony of tiger maple retaining its original golden color and surface, as described by the Levy’s, who handled this piece. It was illustrated in their catalogue vol. IV. And also in a full page ad in Antiques Magazine, January 1982.
No doubt about it, there are tiger maple Queen Anne chests and highboys with flat tops, but those with bonnet tops are rare, especially with exciting figured maple throughout.
What’s especially nice is it’s not humongous; its delicate 35 inch case width retains its original finial.
I feel this highboy adds balance to our other highboys, which, with one exception, are all bonnet tops.
