A Diminutive Mahogany and Satinwood Hepplewhite Settee/Sofa, England, c.1800

Although having a Chippendale form, this sofa is transitional as the legs are not square but tapered, and inlaid in the later, Hepplewhite style.  Small sofas like these are extremely desirable, and this one rates highly with beautifully inlaid front legs of satinwood. The shaping of the settee is beautifully formed with high rolled arms and a camelback form reminiscent of earlier Chippendale style. The legs are all original, as is the frame. The upholstery job is excellent, and the material in good shape.

Height: 38 in.  Depth: 25 1/2 in.  Length: 71 in.
