This is a very delicate diminutive settee with slender reeded arm supports, all of which is supported on strong tapered square legs. This is a rare form that was deaccessioned from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This was at a time they were culling through their inventory as space for storage was limited. It came out of Skinner’s, who they often use. Some of the best things I have found are the result of museums cleaning house. Needless to say, not everything they send to auction is worthy, so buyer beware, especially in cases like this item, as many of these small settees were cut down from larger pieces.
