This is a late Classical server that makes a very gracious presentation. It is composed of brilliant figured mahogany with its original outstanding glass pulls.
While the length of this sideboard provides a very gracious serving area it nevertheless makes for a very open light statement. The upper structure is supported by cabriole Classical support columns, which terminate in small paw columns all of which rest on a substantial lower base. The lower section is structured around locking mirrored doors. These doors reveal space for glass and bottles.
The form of this sideboard is a departure from earlier Colonial design. It is probably the last expression of the Classical server that was made in New York by Duncan Phyfe and his circle for the great townhouses that were being built in the latter part of the first quarter of the 19th century.
