An Exuberant Bird’s Eye Maple Gilt and Stenciled Sewing Table, Philadelphia, c.1825

This is one of the finest Philadelphia worktables we have come across.  We have never seen the use of solid, carved bird’s eye maple…especially not to the degree to which the four legs are composed.   Look at the close-ups and you can see that they almost feel like they are made of marble.

Overall, this casepiece is a tour de force with three drawers and ample embellishment.  It is original, with no repairs or alterations, except for general housekeeping and  polishing.   The brasses appear original.
