A Strongly Figured Tiger Maple Tall Post Bed, probably Pennsylvania, Early 19th century

This bed is composed throughout of some of the finest tiger maple that we have handled.   (Please see the close-ups.)  What is also most appealing is the beautifully tapered vase and ring turned posts, the design line of which is most elegant; not too thin and not too beefy, but beautifully proportioned to its height.   Examining the lower part of the posts, one can see this was turned in a real colonial shop.   It retains its original framework.  The mahogany backboard is beautifully figured.   It is old, and probably later.  Most of these headboards were plain pine because they were covered, however some were of finer woods.
