This is an outstanding Sheraton card table with an extenuated shaped top in immaculate, most desirable condition. This model is extremely successful because of the gracious serpentine swing to the front apron creating an image reminiscent of the earlier Chippendale porringer tables. Note the image with the top lifted up, and you’ll see a quintessential Chippendale silhouette. The skirt on this table follows through with the most desirable flamed mahogany. The superbly carved columns, of course, are pure classical. In the detailed images below, note the star punchwork in the carved elements. Another element to note is the solid top, (composed of heavily figured cuban mahogany), and its edges, which are beautifully reeded, and make an extremely fine statement.
All of the above make it a best example of the 1830 McIntyre Salem school, which has been thoroughly documented.
The carved elements retain an original crackled surface.
