A Large Classical Mahogany Gondola Armchair, probably New York, c.1820-30

DEACCESSIONED

This is a commodious and comfortable armchair.  The style is superb with scrolled arms and additional side supports that taper into the front arm supports.   The rear legs have a beautiful splay and the figured mahogany apron below the seat is bow shaped.  There are many of this form, many being of cheap construction…this is not one of those!  We have had this chair completely taken apart, reglued, reassembled, and french polished so it is as strong as or probably stronger than when new.
