An Early Queen Anne Tray Top Tea Table, England or America, c.1740

This is a small scale tea table composed of soft maple and ash, a wood which appears on either side of the pond.  Looking at the structure, the sides, from underneath, are very roughly hewn, as is the style of the leg.    Therefore, an earlier than later date is realistic.    Also, it is interesting  to note that the sides are very thick, which is  not an English trait, given the paucity of wood in England at that time.   Consequently, it perhaps is American, but one cannot be conclusive.

The maple is a typical American soft maple, but does appear in England.  The feet are interestingly executed, (see images).   There are no breaks or alterations.  Structurally, it is a very clean piece, and handled by Ginsberg & Levy, one of the most respected New York dealers of the time.

In a word, it is a lovely, delicate table, and obviously prized through the years.
