A Fine Chippendale Lolling Chair (Open Arm Chair) with String Inlay, probably New Hampshire, c.1780

DEACCESSIONED

Whereas, this lolling chair form is a recognized federal style, this chair, with its square Chippendale legs, is perhaps an early example.  Note the curved sides of the back of this chair; it’s reminiscent of the curved wing backs.   This chair is in all original condition with no breaks or alterations, in an old surface.  It has been newly reupholstered.   It was handled previously by the late Wayne Pratt, a dealer handling the best of Colonial decorative art.
