A Grand Chippendale / George II Carved Mahogany Armchair with Marlboro Legs, c.1780

This is a good sized chair which is as comfortable as it looks.  The arm supports are beautifully carved and detailed, as are the legs.  The casters in the rear were added later–and the Marlboro foot at the bottom of the leg raised accordingly–all probably done in the 19th century.  All the stretchers, etc. are original with no breaks, retaining an old historic surface.   The upholstery quality silk, while not new, is in good condition.

This is one of those grand English armchairs that speaks of quality, history, and English grand manor style.
