A Fine Mahogany and Bird’s Eye Inlay Federal/Sheraton Card Table with Lunette Inlay, in Old Surface, Boston, Seymour or Contemporary, c.1810

DEACCESSIONED

What strikes one first is the old, crazed surface throughout.  This tells us that the inlays are original (see images below).   Note the shrinkage crack on the central panel.  There are other variations of this model, some with more inlay, but the designer of this table sought to emphasize an extra large panel with its lunette-bordered inlay.  This table is in original highly sought after condition.  Flanking this panel are the bookend matched mahogany and wonderfully veneered turrets.   The top boards of the table are very heavy slabs of solid striped mahogany…this was a first class table with the best of the best wood.

A note on the legs: for related card tables by Seymour which employ a similar leg (and in one case, lunette inlay), see the attached scanned examples.
