This is a fine Federal secretary of a small size (38 ½ in. wide).  This secretary relates to many examples made in Boston we often call “Seymour School” because of the arched doors, but this is probably Salem because of the classic Salem apron.   This motif, flanked by the French legs (which are in perfect original condition, as is the rest of the piece) is repeated in many forms of Salem furniture, as a means to attractively frame the drawers (or doors) above.
