Two Beaded Cameroonian Male Fertility Figures from the Bamileke Tribe, early 20th century

These figures exhibit vibrantly colored beadwork, predominantly in blue and green, over burlap, with colored details throughout.  Both are of impressive size, the taller of the two being six feet high.  Each figure holds a horn-type vessel in its right hand.

The previous owner reports that this was once in the collection of Gaston DeHavenon, a prominent collector of African art, who exhibited at the Museum of African Art, later a part of the Smithsonian Institute.

Provenance: The Morgan Rank Collection of Folk Art and Musical Instruments.
