A Diminutive Carved Mahogany Chippendale Card Table, England, c.1780

DEACCESSIONED

For a small card table, this has the most desirable features for the form.   Unlike most card tables, this table boasts a drawer as well as claw and ball feet.  Also note the lamb’s tongue carved elements below the table’s skirt, another feature not ordinarily found.  The mahogany is of the heaviest dense type and it has a beautiful grain pattern on the top revealing the type of Cuban mahogany found at the time on  Caribbean coasts.

The table works nicely in a foyer along a wall, especially with the drawer.  It is the best of its kind with no breaks or alterations.   We have French polished it, and its appearance is quite stately, with its detailed brass post and bale handle.
