A Cherry Chippendale Linen Press with Solid Figured Panels, New Jersey, c.1780

DEACCESSIONED

This is one of the best of the New Jersey school linen presses we have handled.  We are impressed with the panels, particularly their shaping and construction.  Note the back of each door, which is chamfered, indicating a very thick single board panel.   The construction is superb.   Note the stop-fluting flanking the panel doors.  Also, note the cuts outs on the front and side views of the feet.   This piece was for a fine country home and, in its time, this would have been the highlight of a good-sized bedroom or dressing room.

Note the backboards and the continuity in wood color and oxidation from top to bottom.  This piece has not been moved much in its time and is a very choice piece of New Jersey furniture which often is taken for rural Connecticut origin.  It is all original with the exception of the hinges.
