A Diminutive Federal Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard with Serpentine Top, Attributed to Holmes Weaver, Rhode Island, c.1810

This sideboard is small and magnificently inlaid throughout. Note the legs have a curly mahogany inlay and all doors are cross-banded with circular panels of vibrant mahogany. Typical to Newport Federal sideboards, this one is rather deep and employed the central pull-out shelf. The brasses are original and interestingly, the oval plate for the drawer handles was carefully filed out to accept a key, which we find kind of amusing. But is, in fact, original, like the others. This is one of our finest sideboards, with no repairs or alterations whatsoever.

A mate to this sideboard is at the Whitehorn House, Newport Restoration Society.
