A Magnificent Regency Mahogany Cellaret, England, c.1810

DEACCESSIONED

Announcement!  This item will be available at auction from Neal Auction Company on January 26th, 2019.  Preview exhibition is currently underway.  Click here to see our listings at nealauction.com.

This is a large size cellaret complete with copper pan with draining plug. The feet are brass and beautifully sculpted.    The inlays are finely executed and the mahogany is brilliantly figured.  We have had this piece French polished and had a new copper pan made for it.  The lion mask pull is original and the flat top makes it very useful as a small coffee table or under an open sideboard.

We have seen many cellarets and this one of the finest in all respects.   Its condition is impeccable.

A related cellaret is illustrated in Arts of the Federal Period: 1785, cat. no. 103.  (A scan of this illustration is provided below.)
